A distinguished antique Limoges porcelain oyster plate, made for the renowned luxury retailer Tilden Thurber Co. of Providence around 1880–1910. Formed with five deep, molded oyster wells and a lightly scalloped border, the plate is richly decorated with hand-applied raised gold and elegant Art Nouveau motifs rendered in olive green, pink, and gold. The design and gilding are both of exceptional quality, representing the high-end French porcelain imported by Tilden Thurber for affluent American clientele during the Gilded Age.
The underside bears the M&C Limoges factory mark in green and the Tilden Thurber retailer stamp in red. The piece measures 7 5/8 inches in diameter. A small chip is present on the front rim with mild wear to the gold consistent with careful age. The overall presentation remains visually beautiful and highly collectible.
